She was born Sophia De’Shea Lavender, in Savannah, Georgia in 2002. She sometimes goes by Val, or Legacy Valentine (Check out her SoundCloud on the home page for her own music she is writing now!) She spent the first 8 years of her life in Mobile, Alabama. She got her early start in performing arts and music with the Brandy Brown Performing Arts Studio under the guidance of Brandy Brown Pendleton, famous for her roles in Eponine in 1992 from the Broadway Musical show “Les Miserables” and the Mickey Mouse Club (1989). Sophia began performing when she was just three years old and has now begun writing songs at 13 years old. She moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and has devoted a great deal of time to her career that is taking off.
She has already put out her very first single at only 13 years old last July, titled Thinking of You. Her focus is in the Pop and R & B genres but her talent's do not stop there. Sophia can sing country just as good as any of the established artists out there which makes her a bit different. Sophia has performed on numerous background tracks for artists such as Big Sean, Frank Ocean as well as worked with famous producers Diane Warren, Marsha Malamet, Rob Cantor, and Diplo.
She performed on the KRAMPUS soundtrack that was released in late 2015 and appeared on the red carpet for the premier. She currently is represented as a background singer on the # 1 progressive house single, titled Love for Life. She has appeared in events such as WeDay, Think it Up National telecast, Home & Hallmark Show and NBC upfront. Soph was a finalist in Step2themic kids in May 2016 and is a natural performer, even at her young age. Sophia has recently performed on the Critics Choice Nominated "Prayers for this World", written and produced by Diane Warren and she sang along with Cher as a lead vocal on the track. She has made appearances recently on the Late Late show on CBS also, having a great time representing Gap Brands.
Not only does Sophia have a musical background, she comes from a musically gifted family, including the multi-talented and gifted Philip Lawrence of the Smeezingtons (Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine), who won the Grammy this year for the smash hit Uptown Funk. Philip is a big part of her continued inspiration to continue with her musical career and share her gift.
